My daily goal as a mortgage adviser is to match clients with the right mortgage and the best deal on the market that suits their requirements. To do this, I make sure I build a trusting and friendly relationship. This means that I know exactly what they want from their mortgage.
Buying a house or re-mortgaging can be a very worrying time. So I aim each day to take some of the stress away from my clients.
My days are usually very hectic, and no two days are the same, so organisation is very important.
I have to make sure I am keeping in contact and answering any queries with my existing clients, but also making sure I am responding quickly to new clients, so having a balance and structure to my day is key.
As a modern mortgage adviser, many appointments and relationships with clients are built over the phone. However, when preferred by the client, we meet face to face at a time and place that suits.
A Day in the Life of a Mortgage Adviser
On our first meeting I will find out the required information which enables me to do some in depth research for my client. Every bank and building society have different policies, so we make sure that we do enough research to enable us to be confident with our recommendation.
My working day also consists of applying for mortgages on behalf of clients and catching up with solicitors and estate agents, to make sure the purchase/remortgage is going through smoothly on their side.
I also advise and recommend on protection such as life insurance, critical illness, income protection and general insurance, ie buildings & contents. So, I spend part of my days discussing the importance of protecting yourselves once you have a mortgage.
I would say, the most important role being a Mortgage Adviser is to make sure I explain everything as clearly as possible so that I know my clients understands the reason behind my advice.
Being a Mortgage Adviser is a very rewarding job as I help people during what could be a very stressful time of their lives. One of the most fulfilling parts of this career is helping a client with a difficult case and helping them get the mortgage they need to buy their home.
